Liu familyRight now, the social housing sector is experiencing significant change.


Through the Government’s social housing reform programme, we’re seeing increased diversity among social housing providers through stock transfers, and a much stronger role for the Ministry of Social Development since it’s taken on responsibility for purchasing social housing places and assessing eligibility of applicants.

Housing New Zealand, as a landlord, also has a range of agencies we work with closely – including partnerships supported by memoranda of understanding – that enable us to fulfil our role effectively and meet our legal obligations.
