Minister Twyford kicks tyres on New Lynn redevelopment

19 February 2018

Housing and Urban Development Minister Phil Twyford visited the New Lynn project of Hill Crescent, an example of 100+ redevelopments underway or planned under the Auckland Housing Programme.

PM Claire, Minister Twyford and DM JacobHousing and Urban Development Minister Phil Twyford took time out during a fabulous Auckland afternoon to look at progress at the Hill Crescent, New Lynn redevelopment project.

Development Manager Jacob is leading the project, along with our partner Signature Homes Ltd. and Programme Manager Claire. The team is building 11 two-bedroom, one three-bedroom and 2 four-bedroom new homes on a 2,984 sqm site, replacing three 1950’s houses. The 14 new homes, which are scheduled for delivery in October this year, are more than a third complete after construction started in August 2017.

Signature is also building on the same street 8 new homes. About half the work is complete on the 6 two-bedroom and 2 four-bedroom homes, which replace 2 houses which also date from 1952.

The sites are close to the New Lynn town centre and public transport interchange, employment area, schools including Blockhouse Bay Intermediate and Chaucer Primary, churches and public recreational amenities.

Also in New Lynn, Housing New Zealand recently received resource consent for the 45-unit redevelopment project at another Hill Crescent address across 2 five-level apartment blocks. This will see 3 old homes replaced with 45 two- and three-bedroom warm, dry, modern apartment units.

And construction will soon kick off on an 82-unit development of Thom Street, a $23 million project recently awarded to Dominion Constructors Ltd.
