A Henderson Intermediate School child will have the chance to attend school camp next month thanks to a fundraising effort by Housing New Zealand’s Henderson office.
(L-R) Housing New Zealand’s Marion Humphrey and Karen Hema hand over a cheque for $310 to Henderson Intermediate School Principal Wendy Esera.
Staff there helped raise $310 to support a student who wouldn’t otherwise have made it to the camp, which will take place at Finlay Park Adventure Camp near Lake Karapiro.
Housing New Zealand’s Henderson Area Manager Karen Hema says her team had been talking for a while about a community initiative they could get in behind.
“Then we found out that Marion Humphrey, one of our colleagues whose grandson attends Henderson Intermediate, was already in fundraising mode. When we learned why, we all jumped on board.
“A lot of our work is with families who are facing financial and other pressures so the idea of supporting a child to experience school camp really resonated with us.”
Henderson Intermediate School principal Wendy Esera says she was delighted to receive the donation from Karen and Marion, Housing New Zealand’s Auckland and Northland Stakeholder Relationship Manager, last week.
“For many families today coming up with $300 for a school camp is very difficult. To receive something like this is just lovely and shows the caring culture within Housing New Zealand. We are hugely appreciative of the kindness and generosity shown by the staff.”
