Housing New Zealand staff and guests recently shared morning tea and tips on nutrition and gardening with Hornby residents.
The event was hosted at the Hornby Community Centre by Tenancy Managers Lynley, Zoe and Alyssa, along with Stakeholder Relations Manager Ray.
Nutritionist Emma Clarkson kindly shared her expertise on healthy eating, while Brent Jackson, a contractor with Clean Up Canterbury, advised on basic gardening and potting up plants.
Attendees ranged from retirees to a young couple with a baby. Some had lived in the Hornby area for a long time; others were recent arrivals, and all agreed it was a good location for neighbours, shops and public transport. They were keen for Housing New Zealand to hold more of these events, and find other ways tenants could interact with their wider community.
Lynley said it was a great opportunity for staff and tenants to mingle informally and get to know each other a bit more. “And it was fun. It’s always good to see people laughing together, and swapping anecdotes and knowledge.”
