Housing New Zealand opened its doors to the Johnsonville community at the new Haumaru 21-one bedroom development on Wednesday this week.
Following a humble opening led by our Kaumatua we welcomed the community to join us for a BBQ and an opportunity to show them around the new units
Haumaru has been a great example of involving the wider community in one of our developments,” says Housing New Zealand, Programme Director Jonathan.
“Last year we asked the local school, St Brigid’s, to help us name the new housing. They turned this into a school project and came up with the name Haumaru, which means a place where people can live in peace and harmony,” says Jonathan.
“Today we have opened our doors to the community to see where their new neighbours will be living and so that we can foster an ongoing relationship between the tenants that will soon be moving in.”
The new build at Frankmoore Avenue in Johnsonville replaces a 12-unit complex that was demolished in 2016 after it was found to be earthquake prone.
