The first stage of an impressive re-development in a Christchurch community hit hard by the earthquakes was recently opened.
On a site where there were eight older homes now sits 23 spacious one bedroom units.
Next door, a set of two-bedroom, two-storey homes will be completed later this year, providing housing for 14 families.
Housing New Zealand’s Chief Operating Officer Paul Commons spoke at the official opening of the first stage and said it was exciting for the new homes to be located in the local community.
He welcomed the chance to work closely with neighbours and local groups, as well as social services, to develop a great place for our tenants to call home.
Kaumatua Ramona Croft blessed the new complex while Christchurch East MP Poto Williams also spoke at the event attended by more than 40 guests.
Some tenants have already moved into the complex while others will arrive in the coming weeks.
