Te Roopu Taurima is the largest kaupapa Maori organisation in the country, providing support services for people of all ethnicities who have intellectual disabilities.
Currently the organisation leases 52 community group homes from Housing New Zealand, from as far north as Kaitaia and as far south as Christchurch.
Through engagement and partnership with Housing New Zealand, Karen says Te Roopu Taurima now has another five-bedroom whare in Te Taitokerau (Northland).
The whare will provide residential care and support to four local clients and a live in caregiver.
Northern Service Manager Terry Wilson says Te Roopu Taurima continues to have to have high demand for their services and residential homes to support people with intellectual disabilities in Te Taitokerau.
"With the opening of another whare in Te Taitokerau, local people, their whanau and hapu now have an opportunity to be supported by Te Roopu Taurima while living in their own community", Terry says.
