This quarter we present Star Subbie Awards not to just one, but four top-performing subbies!
All of the contractors acknowledged played a critical role in transforming a south Auckland motel in the last week before Christmas, making it fit to accommodate people in urgent need of housing.
Housing New Zealand Development Analyst Jo Wemyss says the trades worked side-by-side to turn five units around in an impressive four and half days.
“I couldn’t have asked for more of these subbies in this instance, especially given the time of the year with everyone else in a mad rush getting ready for Christmas. It didn’t matter what we needed done, it was just done. It made my job easy and I am sure the emergency housing clients who moved in really appreciated having a roof over their heads as a result.”
And here’s how David Castle, Spencer Henshaw Limited’s South Auckland 2 Co-ordinator, summed up the various contributions:
Bathrooms New Zealand (BNZ)
BNZ did all the interior building work, including all the shower boxes in the units and the full re-do of the bathroom in the main unit. They worked tirelessly, and to a high standard, during the week leading up to Christmas to ensure units were tenantable by Christmas day. Chang Zheng (Nic) and his team worked long hours to achieve a great end result on a tight deadline.
Amped Ashman Electrical
Mike and his team took everything in their stride on this job and gave us everything we asked for, and more, on a very tight deadline (while also juggling their non-motel related work). Mike and his boys upgraded nine of the units’ distribution boards and replaced a significant amount of wiring to ensure everything was up to specification. Mike also managed to source multiple procurement stoves which was no small task as suppliers were very much in ‘holiday mode’. Their attitude toward this job was 'nothing is impossible'.
Property Care Cleaners
After all the work done the motel was, understandably, a mess. Dianne and her team of cleaners stepped up, cleaning all five units in one day and giving us an awesome end product to hand back to HNZ. Cleaning up after this much construction and chaos was no small task and their work was highly appreciated and an essential component of the successful hand back.
Lawries Lawn and Property Care
Lawrence and his team did all the exterior work, including removing the motel signs from rooftops and disposing of literally tonnes of unwanted concrete. His boys did an awesome job of pouring a concrete path for the new clotheslines, which they’d also installed, behind the units. From tree removal to structural roof repairs, they helped out in any way we asked to ensure the property’s exterior was more than presentable for Housing New Zealand the tenants.
Great job everyone!
