Gateway
What is Gateway?
Gateway enables first home buyers, or community housing organisations, to not pay for Crown and Housing New Zealand land for up to ten years.
This means Gateway customers can concentrate on the important tasks of designing and building their new home, moving in and starting to pay off the mortgage they have on their house.
How does Gateway work?
- Paying for the land
- What type of land is available and what can I do with it?

Available Gateway land
Gateway land is now available in the following areas:
To apply for land or register your interest
Any Gateway land that becomes available will be posted here. Once posted, you can apply by downloading the Gateway application form.
- If interested in more than one piece of land, you will need to apply for each piece as it becomes available.
- If you have already applied for a piece of land in the last three months, you may only need to provide some updated information.
- You are not required to get approval from a bank until you’ve been allocated land.
- When there is more than one application for a piece of land, Housing New Zealand will conduct a ballot to decide who receives the land.
You can also register your interest with us and be informed if any Gateway land becomes available in your area.
To register, email gateway@hnzc.co.nz or call 0508 935 266.
