What's New

A smarter approach to housing

Housing New Zealand will be improving the way it responds to its customers by offering customers with a broader suite of options than just state housing.

This new approach will be rolled out nationally over the next three months, starting in 18 Housing New Zealand neighbourhood units on Wednesday 10 March.

Buying your first home with KiwiSaver

If you are a member of KiwiSaver and a first home buyer (or a previous home owner in the same position as a first home buyer), there are two home ownership products that are available to you: the KiwiSaver Deposit Subsidy and the First Home Withdrawal. Housing New Zealand will administer the First Home Deposit Subsidy. Your provider will administer the First Home Withdrawal, however, if you are a previous home owner wanting to use this product, Housing New Zealand will have to determine if you are in the same position as a first home buyer.

Both these products will be available from 1 July 2010. If you are thinking of buying your first home and belong to a KiwiSaver scheme - see the details on how the KiwiSaver First Home Deposit Subsidy and First Home Withdrawal may be able to help.

Upgrading homes 2009/10

There will be substantial work on state homes throughout 2009/10 from a combination of new and existing programmes. 21,000 homes will be upgraded from a budget of $152 million.  $124.5 million is derived from an additional investment by the Government in state homes in February 2009 to stimulate economic activity and create jobs in the construction sector.

It can be tricky finding your ideal tenant. So let Housing New Zealand move in instead.

With Housing New Zealand's Home Leasing scheme, we lease your property from you directly for up to 10 years. That means we'll find a tenant for your property ourselves, and you'll never have to go chasing after rent again.

We're looking for two - five bedroom houses in high demand areas. So if you have a property you'd like to lease to Housing New Zealand, click here.
