True sprit of the community
Clendon tenant Neville Travers has true community spirit.
He is generous with his time and when he gets an idea, he'll do everything he can to put it into action.
Neville, who returned to Auckland in 1998 after living in Rotorua for a while, grew up in Onehunga.
“I can remember biking out through the acres of market gardens to see the Tiger Moth planes at the little airport at
Mangere,” he says.
The landscape has certainly changed but Neville's passion for activity has not.
Recently, Neville was sworn in as a Justice of the Peace in recognition of his contribution to the community and the wide respect he has from people. “I just like being busy and helping others,” he says.
Neville has many feathers to his cap. As well as being a JP, Neville has been involved in the scouting movement in the Bay of Plenty and Auckland for the past 16 years.
He also set up the Clendon Residents' Group and worked hard to see that it became a strong voice for residents.
Five years down the line, the group is very active in the renewal project and with Council representing the community.
Neville also helped set up the hugely successful ?Tool Library' which has over 170 registered members who use the tools to maintain their properties, at very low costs.
As a JP, Neville now attends Citizens Advice Bureau clinics in Mangere and Manurewa where he helps people sort out their problems.
Neville's passion and commitment continue to bring fantastic results to the community.
