Tenants embrace home ownership opportunity
3 February 2010
Tenants in Hastings became proud new owners of their three bedroom state house on Friday, 29 January 2010.
Michaela, and husband Jamie, were visited by Housing Minister, Phil Heatley to mark the fact they were the first tenants to buy their state house, since the scheme was launched mid-September.
Iain Duncan, Product Manager says this is a positive start for the programme.
"There are currently nine other sale and purchase agreements being considered by tenants."
"So far we have received 1445 formal applications, and confirmed 976 properties can be sold. The next step for those tenants to provide us with pre-approved finance confirmation," he said.
A further 31 applicants have arranged mortgage finance and are talking to Housing New Zealand.
The Hastings couple used Welcome Home Loan to help fund the purchase of their house. Their home loan was provided through the Taranaki Savings Bank.
