Shortlisted parties bring expertise to Pomare redevelopment

02 February 2012

Housing New Zealand’s call for partners for the proposed Pomare redevelopment project has attracted interest from five groups.

“We are really pleased with the level of interest shown from groups wanting to partner with the Corporation in redeveloping Pomare,” said Sean Bignell, General Manager Asset Redevelopment.

“Three groups have been short-listed, all of whom demonstrated capability and understanding of the project objectives, including the provision of new state housing, affordable housing and private housing.

“We are now looking forward to receiving their development proposals so we can determine which group would be the best one to partner with us on this redevelopment project,” says Mr Bignell.

“The project is the second stage in making Pomare a place where there is better quality, affordable rental housing and more opportunities for home ownership.”

The shortlisted groups are required to submit Development Proposals by 27 March 2012. They are:

  • City Living Ltd
  • Port Nicholson Block Settlement Trust, Wellington Tenths Trust, Palmerston North Maori Reserve Trust
  • The Surveying Company (Wellington) Ltd

“Assessment of the proposals will go through a robust procurement process, and we expect to have a partnership agreement in place by mid to late 2012.

“From there we will work with the partners to develop plans further so we can share these with the community and invite feedback. We are committed to keeping the local community updated as the project progresses,” says Mr Bignell.

“Tenants affected by the redevelopment have now moved to alternative state housing in the area and demolition of the old state houses on Farmer Cresent has been completed.”
